Choosing The Best Window Treatments: Sliding Doors
February 9, 2024Sleep Better With The Right Window Shades
March 15, 2024It’s officially time for spring cleaning – and that includes your perfect blinds! Using window coverings becomes like muscle memory, so while you open and close them nearly every day, you might not think about cleaning them all the time. And if you do, how do you know you’re cleaning them correctly? With just a little proper maintenance – this spring or any time – you can keep your blinds looking their best and lasting their longest easily.
Tip #1: Scheduled Cleaning
Cleaning blinds can feel like it has to be a big event, but you can keep things more manageable by having a regular schedule. This way, you can break the cleaning up into smaller chunks. Not every clean needs to be a deep clean!
You may consider:
- Weekly or Monthly: Lightly dust your blinds every time you do a routine spot clean of your house
- Seasonal: Attack a deeper cleaning once every season
- Deep Clean: You don’t need to really get in there more than twice a year – spring cleaning and before the fall holidays are great times
Tip #2: Hand Dust Your Blinds
Dusting by hand is really all you need to do for regular weekly cleaning. It’s quick, it’s easy and it requires no expensive equipment! Simply lower your blinds all the way down and close them flat. Use a dust cloth to begin wiping from the top down, gliding across each slat. Then, rotate and repeat. You can also use an old sock or even a dryer sheet.
Tip #3: You Can Vacuum Your Blinds
Vacuuming is a little more involved than quick hand dusting, but it keeps things nice and super clean. With your blinds extending and closed, use the brush attachment on your vacuum to cover each slat, working your way down. Flip and repeat. When you’re finished, you can still run a dryer sheet over them to help reduce static and repel new dust.
