closed blinds

So you’ve installed the perfect blinds for your room – they match your style, they’re easy to use and you’re using them on a daily basis. Like any part of your home, it’s important to keep them clean. But is there special maintenance? How can you keep them their cleanest to make them last longer and keep things simpler for you?

Schedule Cleaning Sessions

Cleaning blinds can feel like a whole hassle, but it helps if you break it down. Don’t feel like you need to do a deep clean every time. Consider instead something like this:

  • Regularly: Dust your blinds every time you do a routine clean of your house
  • Monthly: Window coverings can be dusted once a month
  • Seasonal: Attack a deeper cleaning once every season
  • Deep Clean: Really get int here no more than twice a year, possibly during spring cleaning and around the holidays

Hand Dusting

A low-stress and a low-threshold way to keep blinds clean is by dusting by hand. It’s quick and easy and requires no expensive equipment. Generally, simply lower your blinds all the way down and close them flat. Use a dust cloth to begin wiping from the top down, gliding across each slat. Then, rotate and repeat. You can also use an old sock or even a dryer sheet.

Vacuum Your Blinds

Vacuuming is a little more involved than a quick hand dusting, but it delivers great results. With your blinds extending and closed, use the brush attachment on your vacuum to cover each slat, working your way down. Flip and repeat. When you’re finished, you can still run a dryer sheet over them to help reduce static and repel new dust.
